I’ll admit that I’m ignorant about lots of music. I have an excuse, of course, and that is that it’s a big, big world full of lots of people making music; so how in the world can you expect me to know about it all?

I first learned about Henri Salvador when I made a trip to France in 2001. His new release at the time, “Chambre avec Vue,” was suggested to me by an employee of a music store at one of the metro stations. I’ve heard more over the years, and have come to enjoy his work. I’m tempted to say that he was the French Frank Sinatra, but he had a touch of Salvador Dali or Señor Wences in him too. His Scopitone music videos from the 1960s are something to behold.

Henri Salvador died yesterday at the age of 90. A performer for over 70 years, he was still much beloved in France, and was slated to release a new CD and go on a final tour this year.
